SPINAL MANIPULATION: AN EFFECTIVE MANUAL THERAPY FOR PAIN RELIEF
Spinal manipulation, also known as high velocity low amplitude thrust (HVLAT), is a highly skilled technique performed by licensed physical therapists to relieve pain, increase range of motion, and restore blood flow. During the procedure, a physical therapist applies a specifically directed force near the end of the physiological range of motion, often accompanied by an audible ‘crack’ or ‘pop.’ Spinal manipulation has been employed by physical therapists for years and has been proven to be an effective treatment for back pain, headaches, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
MYOFASCIAL CUPPING: A UNIQUE TECHNIQUE FOR RELIEVING TENSION
Myofascial cupping is a unique technique used by physical therapists to relieve tension in the muscles and fascia. The therapist uses special cups that create suction on the skin, drawing the underlying tissue up into the cup. This technique can help to reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, and increase range of motion. At Vertex PT Specialists, our therapists are highly trained in myofascial cupping and use it as a part of our comprehensive treatment plans.
JOINT MOBILIZATION: IMPROVING MOTION AND FUNCTION
Joint mobilization is a graded technique used to restore range of motion to an area of restriction. This technique is especially useful when motion is limited by articular structures. Our licensed physical therapists will use joint mobilization to grade techniques based on pain tolerance and the acuity of the condition. This ultimately leads to a quicker return to normal motion and function.
SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION: A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO MANAGING DYSFUNCTION
Soft tissue mobilization is a holistic approach to managing dysfunction. This technique can be used to relieve myofascial trigger points, reduce swelling and inflammation, relax tight areas, and promote healing. Our therapists at Vertex PT Specialists are trained in a variety of soft tissue mobilization techniques, including myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization.
IASTM: MAXIMIZING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SOFT TISSUE WORK
Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a technique that uses special tools to replace the practitioner’s hands, allowing for more ease in the treatment of hypertonic tissues. These tissues are often locally hypoxic and acidic, and IASTM helps to correct and improve pain and injury associated with surgeries, overuse, and underuse conditions. The technique provides a novel stimulus to the central nervous system, decreasing tone and potentially assisting in improving the function of the targeted tissues. At Vertex PT Specialists, we incorporate IASTM into our comprehensive treatment plans to maximize the effectiveness of soft tissue work.
